Filling applications that facilitate resource savings

ABB flow measurement products facilitate resource savings, from filling road tankers to container or mixing liquids. For example, the chemical industry.

 In the chemical plant process shown above, phosphoric acid is produced in different amounts and at different concentrations. The operator selects two parameters: the amount in kilograms and the concentration of phosphoric acid. The control system automatically controls the mixing and filling operations by dosing water according to the concentration requirement.

Previously, the operator would first take the calculated amount of highly concentrated acid into the tank and then add water until the required concentration level was reached. This would cause errors in volumetric filling. Either the trucks were not 100% filled or they were reloaded after the weight was checked. The use of Coriolis flow meters has eliminated these problems.

In order to provide high-precision online blending of water and acid, the flowmeter measures with a filling accuracy of 0.1% and calculates density and concentration with high precision. An electromagnetic flowmeter can be used for cross-reference. In this application, the filling process was shortened by 20 minutes per vehicle by using CoriolisMaster.
